Interview with a Vampire

August 14, 2017

Not really, but I thought that title might grab your attention! I am on the last edits of second witch book--sorry, no vampires in it, but I do have lots of witches with varying degrees of powers...

Here's the main character, Emeline, from the first book, A Witch in Time Saves Nine. She does look a bit like a vampire, I guess. And here she is on cover of second book: The Moon in Her Eyes--does the full moon suggest vampires?

In book 2 Emeline is tasked with saving the world--not so difficult, right? And lots of plot twists and turns will keep you riveted--believe me. (At least I hope so!)

Here is a short conversation between Emeline and another witch, Helga, to whet your appetite:

At dawn I rose and covered the fire with dirt, pressing my toe into Helga’s ribs to wake her. “Time to rise and shine.”

She sat up her eyes narrowing. “You’re a bitch.”

“So are you,” I said, turning to go.

“What do you think you’re doing? We don’t have to travel on foot.”

“How else can we follow their trail?”

She smirked at me. “We aren’t following your precious tribe’s trail, we’re following the bastards that did this. I can track through the ether—can’t you?”

“I never have,” I admitted. “Shouldn’t we talk about this first? I don’t want to make things worse than they already are.”

“I know what I’m doing,” she said, grabbing me none too gently by the shoulder. “I’m not a newbie like you.”

A moment later we whirled away. We landed on trampled ground that held evidence of blood. I saw a few feathers, a broken tomahawk and an arrow embedded in the base of a tree.

“They were here,” Helga announced, a smug expression on her face.

I stopped to peruse my surroundings, checking for evidence of their flight. I felt the tribe close like an ache in my chest. When we reached a clearing I could see marks in the damp dirt. Someone had been dragged away from here in another direction. I followed the signs until they disappeared under the trees. My heart was now in my throat, sure I would come upon some horrible scene of blood and mayhem.
